In their first meeting, the JV Water Polo team battled Loyola to a 5 – 3 advantage. Among the top three teams in the JV MIAA division, Loyola lost to Gilman, MSJ’s victorious opponent on Tuesday, by only one goal in each meeting. Yesterday, the MSJ JV Water Polo team found themselves down 1 – 2 at the end of the first quarter, but then found an offensive groove to match their excellent team defense, and the game ended in a decisive 12 – 4 victory for the Gaels. Goals were scored by Alexander Chairs, Wesley Reising, Patrick Bauer, Patrick Scott and Edward DeMaria.

The Varsity Water Polo team faced a tough opponent in Loyola yesterday, who is tied with Gilman atop the standings in the varsity MIAA division. The Gaels put together what was probably their most complete game of the season, offensively and defensively, across all four quarters. MSJ spotted Loyola three goals in the first five minutes of the game, but then hung tough the rest of the way and finished 7 – 10. Hunter Smith, Jack Gregory and Lorenzo Gurri all scored in the game. Neil Gulmert and Jeremy Luers joined these players in earning assists.

On the varsity level, both Gilman and Loyola ended with a 9 – 1 league record, splitting their games against each other and beating the rest of the field in each game. MSJ is the #4 seed in the MIAA playoffs at McDonogh tomorrow. A coin flip later today will determine the #1 and #2 seed in tomorrow’s semi-final games and who our opponent will be. I will send a message as soon as we know.

Special congratulations to the seniors who yesterday were part of their final game at CCBC: Jack Gregory, Matt Emelio, Jeremy Luers, Lorenzo Gurri, Ryan Morgan, Gage Bangert, Aidan Dunworth, Aidan Czyryca and Alex Andrews. Special thanks to seniors Paul Nguyen and Jack Paine for their service this season in working the scoring table.

Thank you to all the parents who contributed to the food spread for the team celebration yesterday, and special thanks to Ellen Quinn for organizing. Thank you to Haley DeMaria for working the game clocks, and thank you to Mark Pennsy for continuing to share with us photos from our games.

Stay tuned for the coin flip results. See everyone at McDonogh this weekend!
